Bald Eagle populations were really struggling for decades due to human associated activities including the use of a pesticide, called DDT, using in agriculture. Since the banning of DDT use, bald eagle populations are improving. Lead poisoning associated with the use of lead ammunition in waterfowl hunting is becoming of increasing concern for bald eagles at this time.
Barn swallows are listed as a species at risk in Canada. Although still common, their population decreased by ~30% between 1999 and 2009. The exact cause of this decline is unknown. We are always excited to see the barn swallows nesting in our barn. This is a picture of a little barn swallow chick in its gorgeous mud nest in our hay shelter.
More pictures and information coming soon.
